Stupid Guide to Remixes
I apparently have an addiction to making remixes of A Softer World comics with fannish purposes. I’m not surprised.
I’ve never used Photoshop or a Photoshop like program before I started doing these so I’m probably doing this is a very time consuming way. But here’s how I do it! So you people can make them so I can ogle the pretty.
1) Have Photoshop or a Photoshop like program. I use Seashore 2 You can download Seashore 2 here for free. http://seashore.sourceforge.net/The_Seashore_Project/About.html
2) Have a typewriter-like font if you plan on writing your own. A Softer World uses Loveletter TW which you can download for free but any typewriter font will do. Hell, you could use any font - Kontrapunkt is my favorite. But you are banned from using Papyrus, Comic Sans, Bleeding Cowboy or Mark Felt. Those fonts suck.
3) READ A SOFTER WORLD. It’s a fantastic comic. I have a tshirt from them. Reading it and looking at the images will give you a good idea as to the placement of photos and the sort of stories that A Softer World comics tell in three panels.
4) Okay! So get a base. Here’s the one I use.

5) Get an image. This is the one we’ll be using.

6) Drag your base to on the screen of the photo editing program. We’re using a 712 x 384 dimension here.

7) Make sure your base is the top layer. Always. To write your name click the “T” button (for text) and place it near where it says “remixed by” and write your name. (this is not needed - I only do it so that if people are interested in other bandom remixes they can look at my Tumblr. I don’t have any legal rights people are free to claim that this is theirs)

8) Drag the image you’ll be using on the screen. Resize if necessary by going to Layer —> Scale Layer and fool around till the image is the size you want. We’ll be leaving the image I chose at this layer.

9) Again, make sure the softer world base is the top layer!
Drag your image using the arrow keys to where you want them.

10) A Softer World often uses a single image but in different panels focuses on a different part of the image. If you want to use a different image for each panel that’s okay we’ll be using the same image but a different image for the next two panels. Go to Layer —> Duplicate Layer.
10b) You can use text from A Softer World or a different source (your own head for instance or a song lyric) (just make sure to credit the real authors). With the chosen text use the rectangle tool (see it on the far left?) and encircle the text you want - make sure the text is on some type of background so that it will show up in the image.
Copy and command-v the selected text and move it to where you want on the panels.

11) Select “New Layer” when you’ve got the text where you want it. Make sure the text is on top of the image. So move the “floating layer” on the sidebar to above the selected image.
